Andhra government to extend free Insurance to overseas students

The Andhra Pradesh government has opened an opportunity for overseas students from the state to enroll in the Pravasandhra Bharosa Bima (PBB) insurance scheme without any charge until January 15, 2024.

Administered by the Andhra Pradesh Non-Resident Telugu Society (APNRTS), an entity operating under chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, this initiative aims to cater to the welfare of non-resident Telugu citizens (NRTs) residing in various countries, according to an official statement.

The Pravasandhra Bharosa Bima (PBB) Insurance Scheme, specifically designed for NRTs engaged in overseas education and employment, is a crucial service provided by APNRTS. In light of the current opportunity, students are encouraged to take advantage and promptly enroll in the scheme, considering the likelihood of a potential increase in PBB premium and associated benefits, the statement mentioned.

Venkat S Medapti, president of APNRTS, emphasised the financial commitment families make for their children’s education abroad, underscoring the significance of the PBB insurance scheme. He pointed out that in the unfortunate event of a student facing unforeseen circumstances while abroad, the scheme offers life insurance coverage of up to Rs 10 lakh.

Medapti urged students studying abroad and their families to swiftly enroll in the scheme, emphasising that PBB registration ensures financial support to families in the event of unexpected fatalities.

The PBB insurance scheme comes with several benefits, including Rs 10 lakh financial assistance for accidental death or permanent disability, coverage of medical expenses up to Rs one lakh for injuries or sickness, provision of a one-way economy air ticket in case of study disruption due to health issues or accidents and various other benefits, it added.
