Lost PAN Card? Here’s What You Should Do Immediately

New Delhi: The PAN card acts as one of the most crucial documents for the citizens of India. Permanent Account Number is a 10-digit alpha-numeric code issued by the Income Tax Department under the supervision of the Central Board of Direct Taxes. Any applicant who has applied for a PAN card can track its status online.

If the PAN card is lost then you can apply for a duplicate PAN card by submitting the Form for “Request for New PAN Card or/ and Changes or Correction in PAN Data” and a copy of FIR may be submitted along with the form.

Also, PAN card holders can download an instant e-PAN or digital version of their PAN card using the online facility of the income tax department.

How To Apply For Duplicate PAN Card Online:

Step 1: Go to the official website, tin-nsdl.com.

Step 2: On the homepage, click on ‘Services’ and choose the ‘PAN’ option. A new webpage will open.

Step 3: Scroll down, find ‘Reprint of PAN card,’ and click on ‘Apply.’

Step 4: You’ll see a new page called ‘Online PAN Application.’

Step 5: Under ‘Application type,’ select ‘Changes or correction in existing PAN data/ Reprint of PAN card (No changes in existing PAN Data).’

Step 6: Choose the Category.

Step 7: Fill in all the required details and submit the form.

Step 8: After submission, you’ll see a message confirming your request with a Token Number. Note this number for future reference and click ‘Continue with the PAN Application Form.’

Step 9: Fill in the necessary details, choose the mode of submission (Digital, Scanned, or Physical), and complete the ‘Personal details,’ ‘Contact & other details,’ and ‘Document details’ sections. Submit the form.

NOTE: You’ll be directed to the payment page. Once the payment is done, you can check the status of your duplicate PAN card using the 15-digit acknowledgement number generated during the application process.

How to track PAN application through Acknowledgement Number:

Visit the TIN – NSDL PAN Card Tracking Portal.

In the ‘Application Type’ option, select ‘PAN-New/Change Request’ from the drop-down list.

Now enter the “Acknowledgement Number” followed by the security code.

Click on the ‘Submit’ button to check the status of your PAN card application.

After the generation or reprinting of your PAN card, it is dispatched to the address specified in the application form. When monitoring the PAN card application status on the UTIITSL or NSDL portal, the consignment number is provided in the application status.

Typically, the entire process takes up to 15 days to complete, and your PAN card is then dispatched. Once shipped, the Speed Post Consignment number is updated on tracking portals.
