The sub-4-metre compact SUV performed admirably in terms of safety, receiving 32.22 out of 34 points for adult protection and 44.52 out of 49 points for child protection.

Notably, back in 2018, the first generation of Nexon was the first car in India to receive a five-star rating in the GNCAP crash test.

Global NCAP rated the Nexon’s footwell area and bodyshell integrity as stable, and it featured side impact protection doors. The head and neck protection provided for the driver and passenger was adequate. The passenger and driver’s chests appeared to be sufficiently protected. The passenger and driver’s knees appeared to be well protected. The driver and passenger’s tibias were both well-protected.

Furthermore, the head, abdomen, and pelvis demonstrated good side protection, while the chest demonstrated adequate side protection. Additionally, Global NCAP performs side pole impact, providing adequate protection for the abdomen, marginal protection for the chest, and good protection for the head and pelvis.

As standard, the Nexon satisfies GTR9 and UN127 requirements for pedestrian protection. The model also has seat belt reminders in every seating position and complies with Global NCAP’s ESC regulations.

The Nexon’s safety features include six airbags, an electronic stability programme, ISOFIX mounts, rear parking sensors, tilt and collapsible steering, central locking, and hill hold control. Currently, all Tata SUVs receive a five-star rating in crash tests.

“Safety is ingrained in our DNA, and we are proud to earn the prestigious 5-star rating from Global NCAP for the new Nexon as per the enhanced 2022 protocol. It was the first car in India to receive 5 star rating from GNCAP in 2018 and it upholds this legacy, showcasing our unwavering commitment to innovation and excellence,” Chief Product Officer (CPO) at Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, Mohan Savarkar said as quoted by Hindustan Times.

“With this feat, all our new SUVs have now received the GNCAP 5-star rating certifications and have raised the bar for safer SUVs in India. We are dedicated to delivering vehicles that not only surpass expectations but also prioritize the safety of every passenger on the road,” Savarkar added.
