Weather Update: North India prepares for weather variations; IMD predicts snow, rain, and thunderstorm in THESE states – Full forecast here

The IMD has also predicted potential hailstorm activity at isolated areas in Jammu division on February 18, in Himachal Pradesh on February 18 and 19, and in Uttarakhand from February 18-21.

As per the India Meteorological Department’s prediction a fresh Western Disturbance was expected to hit India’s northwest region yesterday. Under this, the areas are likely to experience a wide range of weather-related events in the coming days.

Snowfall in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir

As per the IMD, from February 17 to 20, widespread light to moderate rainfall and snowfall is expected in the Western Himalayan Region, including Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

From February 18 to 20, heavy rainfall is anticipated at isolated locations in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh, and on February 19 and 20 in Uttarakhand. Besides this, very heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated spots in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand on February 19.

The IMD has also predicted potential hailstorm activity at isolated areas in Jammu division on February 18, in Himachal Pradesh on February 18 and 19, and in Uttarakhand from February 18-21.

Rainfall in Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh

Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and West Uttar Pradesh from February 19-21, over East Uttar Pradesh from February 20 to 22, and isolated occurrences over north Rajasthan from February 19 to 21 and over north Madhya Pradesh from February 20 to 22.

Isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds reaching 30-40 kmph, gusting to 50 kmph, are likely over Punjab from February 18 to 21, over Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and West Uttar Pradesh from February 19 to 21, over north Rajasthan from February 19 to 20, and over East Uttar Pradesh on February 20 and 21.

Hailstorm activity is expected at isolated places over Punjab, Haryana, and north Rajasthan on February 19 and 20, and over West Uttar Pradesh on February 20.

What was IMD’s prediction for Assam, Arunachal Pradesh?

The IMD has said that due to a cyclonic circulation situated over northeast Assam and its vicinity in the lower tropospheric levels, isolated occurrences of light to moderate rainfall are expected in Arunachal Pradesh on February 17 and 18, and over Assam, Meghalaya, and Nagaland today.

Furthermore, owing to a new cyclonic circulation or trough at lower levels, fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall and snowfall is anticipated across Northeast India from February 21 to 24. Isolated instances of heavy rainfall or snowfall are also probable over Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, Meghalaya on February 21.

Dense fog in West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha

Dense fog conditions are expected  to persist during the morning hours in isolated areas of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on today and tomorrow, as well as over Odisha from February 18-20.

Change in minimum temperature

A gradual increase in minimum temperatures by 2-4°C is highly likely across East India over the next 4-5 days, the IMD said on February 17. However, there is no significant change expected in minimum temperatures across Northwest and Central India over the next 5 days, it added.
