Google recently introduced its renamed generative AI chatbot Gemini and rolled out a specialised application for Android smartphones. Similarly, they have seamlessly integrated the Gemini AI chatbot into the Google app for iPhones, offering convenient, one-click access to the cutting-edge model. This integration empowers users with a multitude of features, including chatting with the chatbot, generating images, and obtaining prompt answers to queries.

Here is a comprehensive guide on leveraging Gemini AI on your iPhone:

How to use Gemini AI on an iPhone

Gemini can be accessed within the Google app on iPhone

Unlike Android, iOS does not have a dedicated Gemini app. Instead, the same technology has been integrated into the Google app which makes it fairly easy to access the AI chatbot without downloading another app. However, it is also worth noting that Gemini AI is currently limited to select markets, and only users living in the supported countries can get access to the Gemini AI chatbot.

If you live in a region that supports Gemini AI, then go to the App Store and update the Google app to the latest available version to enable Gemini AI. If you don’t have a Google app on your iPhone, download and install the same. It is a free app available for all iPhones running on iOS 15.0 or later versions. Also, note that to use Gemini AI, you need a Google account and an active internet connection.

Once the Google app has been downloaded or updated to the latest version, open it and you should see a toggle on the top of the screen to switch between Google Search and Gemini. Just toggle the switch, and you will get access to Google’s most advanced AI tool.

Unlike an Android phone, you won’t be able to summon Gemini AI with a voice command but will need to open the Google app to access the chatbot each time.

What can Gemini AI do on your iPhone?

From answering all your queries to generating images with just a text prompt, there are a lot of things that Gemini AI can accomplish. You can also take a picture and ask questions about the same or use the voice search option to get a quick answer. In a nutshell, Gemini AI can do all the things that you can achieve with other AI chatbots like ChatGPT and Copilot. To enable some of these services, one needs to enable extensions like Google Flight, Google Hotels, Google Maps, Google Workspace, and YouTube from the settings menu.

Gemini AI gives you suggestions, answers queries

Enabling Google extnsions will add more capabilities to Gemini

If you are not sure how to use Gemini AI, then the app will give you suggestions on some of the services that it can offer. This includes the ability to make a kid understand a complex concept, creating simple captions for your social media posts, helping you pick the right product by comparing two or more similar products, and even generating ideas for a surprise birthday party.

Again, these can be further personalised, like a surprise birthday party idea for a concert-loving person. While it offers output in text, it can also dictate the AI-generated content. Similarly, if you are planning to go to Goa for your next vacation, Gemini AI can help you with that – just ask: “Help me with a three-day itinerary from Bengaluru to Goa between March 10 and March 14”, and it will include all the details, including travel, accommodation, places to visit, and activities that one can do in Goa.

Thanks to its integration with other services like Google Flights and Google Hotels, it can also offer exact flight and hotel details, including fare, which makes it easy to plan your next holiday. You can also ask things like “best routes for Bengaluru to Goa road trip”, and the results will include the distance and time required to travel, besides route details and must-see places on the way.

Gemini AI can also generate images

Images generated using Gemini AI

From a green Ferrari car to an image of a duck in the wild, Gemini AI can generate images of all sorts. Again, there are certain restrictions on what it can generate and cannot. Once generated, these images can be downloaded to your iPhone and shared with friends and family via platforms like iMessage, WhatsApp or Instagram.

However, unlike Google search, which usually redirects to a website for a specific query, the results from Gemini AI could be inaccurate. Hence, always keep an eye on the details. Lastly, all your search history is stored within the Google app, which makes it easy to go back and refer to something later on.
