‘Virat Kohli Hinted he Might Want me to Come Over’: AB de Villiers Reveals Potential New Role at RCB Ahead of IPL 2024

AB de Villiers hinted at having a new role in the Royal Challengers Bangalore camp ahead of the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League.

Former South Africa batter, AB de Villiers has hinted that he could have a role within the Royal Challengers Bangalore camp ahead of the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Mr 360 went on to reveal that the Indian star, Virat Kohli has suggested ABD come in and help out the icon and some of the batsmen before or during the tournament.

“Nothing confirmed yet, Virat has hinted that he might want me to come over and spend a bit of time with him and some of the batters,” said de Villiers.

AB also mentioned that the final decision on this move is yet to be taken by the management. He said, “That call will come from Andy Flower, Faf and the team. But for now, I will be in Mumbai for the first few weeks of the IPL.”

He also revealed that he will be taking part in commentary duties and will be in Mumbai for the initial weeks of the IPL.

The South African legend has lit up the tournament during his playing days and was inducted into RCB’s Hall of Fame in 2021 for his contributions spanning a decade with the franchise.

He is among the best foreign batters to grace the league with his presence and was a standout batter during his time. He started his IPL career playing for the now-defunct Delhi Daredevils and then made his move to the Bengaluru franchise where he made a name for himself.

In his career in the IPL, he has scored 5162 runs in 184 games with an average of 39.71 and striking at a rate of 151.69. He is the sixth-highest run-scorer in the tournament and second among the foreign batters in the tournament as well.

His best season came in the 2016 season where he scored 687 runs but was overshadowed by Kohli who set the record for the most runs in a season with 973 runs. The side went on to go all the way to the finals but came up short as they still remain hungry for their first title in the franchise’s history.
