The rollout, flagged by keen-eyed observers at WABetaInfo, brings version 2.24.6.20 to the Google Play Store. Within this update, WhatsApp users will find an improved app lock feature, offering a broader range of authentication methods. Previously, the app lock feature solely relied on biometric authentication, such as fingerprint or facial recognition. For individuals without biometric sensors on their devices, this development marks a significant enhancement. Now, they can utilize the app lock feature without encountering compatibility issues. Although, most of the phones these days have biometric sensors. Moreover, for users who prefer alternative authentication methods or are experiencing technical difficulties with biometric sensors, this expanded flexibility is a welcomed addition.

While this update may seem minor to an average user, it could turn out to be important for those who don’t want to use the fingerprint method that everyone is getting right now in the settings. The latest beta version is currently available to a limited group of users, it is expected to be gradually rolled out to a wider audience in the coming months.

Previously capped at three, users can now pin up to five chats simultaneously.  WhatsApp is testing the ability to filter conversations. These filters enable users to streamline their chat view by displaying chats of specific types. WhatsApp has added dedicated filters for showcasing unread conversations and accessing a list of group chats quickly. At the moment, it is limited to a group of beta testers and it will arrive to more people in the coming weeks, according to WaBetaInfo.
