It is aimed at combating spam calls. The new ‘Max’ protection tier, available exclusively on the Truecaller Android app, automatically blocks all spam calls. However, this premium feature caters specifically to paid subscribers of the app. Here is everything you need to know.

To activate the AI spam-blocking feature, Truecaller subscribers can navigate to Settings > Block within the app. Previously, this setting offered two options to paid users: Off and Basic, allowing users to either identify spam callers without blocking them or automatically block calls reported as spam by multiple users. With the introduction of the Max tier, users now have the option to implement stringent spam-blocking measures.

Upon selecting the Max option, Truecaller will proactively block calls from all known spammers, leveraging advanced AI algorithms designed to identify and mitigate spam numbers.

Kunal Dua, Vice President of Search at Truecaller, told Tech Crunch that the company rigorously tested numerous algorithms across diverse markets to ensure the effectiveness of the spam blocking feature.

While the Max spam blocking feature offers protection against unwanted calls, the company also says that users should be aware of the possibility of legitimate calls being inadvertently blocked. However, Truecaller assures users of ongoing enhancements and adjustments based on user input to mitigate such occurrences.

It’s important to note that the AI-powered Max spam blocking feature is exclusive to Truecaller’s Android app, as iOS restrictions prohibit caller ID apps from automatically blocking spam numbers. To access this functionality, users will have to subscribe to Truecaller’s Premium plan, with subscription options starting at Rs 75 per month and Rs 529 annually in India.

The new feature comes a few weeks after the company added AI-Powered Call Recording features for users in India. It is available on iOS and Android platforms.

The feature enables users to record incoming and outgoing calls directly within the Truecaller app, providing a convenient and efficient way to record and manage important conversations.
