Gumlet, a SaaS startup that automates the media publishing pipeline with new-age media delivery infrastructure, has raised $1.6 million in funding led by Sequoia Capital India’s Surge.
Angel investors Aakrit Vaish, Miten Sampat, Swapan Rajdev, and Yash Kothari, also participated.
Gumlet enables developers all over the world to automatically resize and optimize their images and videos to fit the device or browser of the end-user, delivering high-quality content with the least amount of bandwidth.
While images, GIFs, videos, and animations are now an integral part of all digital interactions and experiences, current management and publishing solutions are still limited. This is owing to their reliance on APIs, which necessitate deep integration, domain expertise, and ongoing maintenance.
Gumlet saw an opportunity to create an easily integrated tool to handle media processing for a variety of formats, device sizes, and platforms when it was founded in Singapore in 2019. All previous, new, and upcoming images are automatically optimized for any user once they’ve been integrated. All media files are resized, compressed, format converted, transcoded, streamed, delivered, and analyzed by Gumlet.
Gumlet claims to help developers achieve 30-50 percent better optimization without compromising quality by providing low- or no-code integration plug-ins that automate the entire media publishing pipeline.
The company currently has over 6,000 customers, which include online stores, news sites, blogs, edtech startups, travel sites, and crowdfunding portals. Colearn, YourStory, and Bestseller Group are among the clients. Gumlet delivers over four billion media files per week, resulting in a 25% month-on-month growth rate since the beginning of 2020.

And according to Data Bridge Market Research, the media processing solutions market will be worth $36.63 billion in 2021 and will grow at a CAGR of 13.85 percent from 2021 to 2028. The rise in technological advancements and significant growth of streaming services and platforms is a key factor driving the media processing solutions market.

Aditya Patadia and Divyesh Patel founded Gumlet after building, scaling, and successfully exiting Turing Analytics, a pioneering AI startup in the image recognition and visual search space. Aditya is also the creator of a popular open-source PHP image resizing library, which he launched in 2012.
