TCS tells employees to relocate to new locations within 15 days, IT Union files complaint

The Covid-19 pandemic introduced a new way of working for many — working from literally anywhere in the world — and we all thought that this was here to stay. However, as soon as things returned to normal, companies started calling their employees back to work. TCS (Tata Consultancy Services) also called its employees back to office recently but it looks like that’s not enough. TCS now wants employees to move to new locations within 15 days, and if they are unable to comply, the IT giant will take action against them.

TCS asks employees to relocate within 15 days

According to a Moneycontrol report, over 2,000 TCS employees received a transfer notice recently. These employees have been asked to transfer to different locations and have been given 2 weeks for the same. The employees’ travel and accommodation costs will be covered. However, if they don’t transfer as per the company’s order, there will be “disciplinary action against them.”

The report states that TCS employees started receiving these relocation notices from August end.

Enraged with the sudden orders, around 180 employees reached out to NITES, saying that the company is forcing them to shift without a proper notice or consultation. This has caused “immense hardship for employees and their families.”

The IT Union, on behalf of employees, has now filed a formal complaint against TCS for “unethical transfer practices”. The complaint had been filed with the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

Hoax bomb threat at TCS office

Recently, a TCS office in Bengaluru received a hoax bomb threat call. The caller was a former employee who had grudges against the company and had allegedly made the call out of spite.

As soon as the call was made, office employees panicked and the cops were called. After this, a bomb disposal squad, along with some police officials, rushed to the spot and started investigating. Bomb disposal squad checked the entire premises but found nothing suspicious.

Upon investigating further, the police found out that an ex-employee of the company, based out of Hubli, was behind the calls. This wasn’t the first bomb threat incident that happened at the company. In May this year, TCS Hyderabad office received a similar hoax bomb threat call. A Livemint report stated that the call was made by a former employee based out of Bengaluru. Reports had further revealed that the man behind the call was a part of the security team of TCS Hyderabad office, but was laid off.
