India weather update: New Delhi colder than Shimla, Mussoorie as temperature drops to 4.9°C; IMD predicts heavy rainfall in THESE southern states- Check full forecast here

On December 15, the minimum temperature in New Delhi fell to 4.9 degree Celsius, which is four degrees below the normal.

While places in Jammu and Kashmir are seeing snowfall, down south, states are expected to see heavy rainfall today and in the coming days.

In its latest weather update, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that several regions in the country’s southern states could experience heavy rainfall while others could get light to moderate rainfall.

Heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu, Kerala

As per the agency’s predictions, regions in south Tamil Nadu could experience isolated heavy rainfall between December 16-19 and in Kerala on December 16 and 17. The IMD added that very heavy rainfall is also likely over south Tamil Nadu on December 16 and 17 and over south Kerala on December 17.

Besides this, a few places in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Mahe could experience light to moderate rainfall on December 15,18 and 19.

Dense fog in Punjab, Haryana

The spell of dense fog will continue over Punjab and Haryana. In its update, the IMD said, “Dense fog during morning hours very likely in isolated pockets over Punjab and Haryana during

next 5 days.”

Snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh

The predictions of rainfall/snowfall in the north continue as the temperature falls below 0 degree Celsius. IMD has predicted the probability of isolated rainfall and snowfall over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad on December 16 and 17 and over Himachal Pradesh on December 16.

Temperature in New Delhi

On December 15, the minimum temperature in New Delhi fell to 4.9 degree Celsius, which is four degrees below the normal.

As per an Indian Express report, such a minimum temperature made the capital colder than some locations in the mountains in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, like Shimla and Mussoorie.

As per the predictions by the RWFC New Delhi, the maximum temperature in New Delhi today will be 25 degree Celsius, while the minimum the city could hit is 5 degree Celsius. At the time of writing this report, New Delhi’s temperature was hovering around 12 degree Celsius, while the people in Mumbai are enjoying 23 degree Celsius.

Over the next few days, New Delhi’s minimum temperature is expected to be in the range of 5-7 degree Celsius.

The IMD has said no “significant change” in minimum temperatures is expected over northern parts of the country during the next 4-5 days.
