Russia Plans to Invest 100 Billion Rubles in Drone Development

Russia has announced an ambitious plan to invest 100 billion rubles ($1.1 Billion) in the advancement and manufacturing of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) over the next three years.

The initiative, outlined by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov, underscores the nation’s commitment to expanding its drone technology capabilities.

During the World Defense Show, an international arms exhibition, Manturov revealed the funding strategy, emphasizing the investment would cover new facilities, an expanded range of products, and crucially, advancements in regulatory frameworks.

The announcement was broadcasted on the Rossiya 24 TV channel according to RT.

Manturov detailed the production goals, stating that the plan includes manufacturing hundreds of thousands of FPV drones and tens of thousands of heavy UAVs.

He also noted that 2024 would see an increase in drone supplies to the Russian Armed Forces, with a particular focus on enhancing naval drone capabilities.

This development strategy reflects the Russian government’s recognition of drones’ pivotal role in modern warfare. President Vladimir Putin previously highlighted the effectiveness of drones in the Northwestern Military District, pointing out their success in tasks that were traditionally reliant on front-line or strategic attack aircraft.
