Tata Neu To Enter Food Delivery Market, To Join ONDC To Compete With Zomato, Swiggy

Tata Neu food delivery service is likely to be launched for closed-user group trials in the next few days

Tata Neu, the super app of salt-to-software conglomerate Tata, is gearing up to enter the online food ordering space by piggybacking on the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), according to a Moneycontrol report citing four people aware of the developments.

“It is likely to be launched for closed-user group trials in the next few days. But, the feature may still be a month or more away from going live for the broader public,” said one of the persons, according to the report.

The Moneycontrol report quoted another person as saying that the idea behind entering the food ordering sector is to develop a ‘high-frequency use case’ to bring consumers back to the app regularly. “This will give a chance to Tata Neu to cross-sell its other products on the app — across categories like apparel, jewellery, grocery, electronics, flights and more,” the person added,” according to the person.

Currently, the Tata Neu app has an option for food. However, it also shows menus from Tata group’s restaurants, including Taj. After the ONDC integration, the app will have food options from a large number of eateries across cities.

Currently, Swiggy and Zomato account for over 95 per cent of the food delivery market.
