Switching from Airtel postpaid to prepaid? Here’s what you need to do

Airtel, one of the most popular mobile network providers in India offers both prepaid and postpaid plans. While a postpaid plan has its advantages, most people opt for a prepaid plan since they are lighter on the pocket and offer enough data for casual browsing, scrolling through social media and listening to music. If you are thinking of making the switch to a prepaid plan, here’s how to convert your Airtel postpaid connection to prepaid.

The Airtel Thanks app reportedly had an option that let users quickly migrate from a postpaid to a prepaid connection, but it looks like the network provider has removed it and now requires customers to visit a physical store to complete the process.

1. To switch from a postpaid to a prepaid connection, use the Airtel Store Locator page and find a store nearest to you.

2. Before you go, make sure you have your Airtel postpaid SIM in your phone and an ID proof.

3. Once you reach there, talk to a customer care executive and tell them you want to change your connection from postpaid to prepaid.

4. The customer representative will hand you the ‘Postpaid to Prepaid Migration Form’. When you get it, fill out all the required details, and if you face any problems, ask the executive to help you.

5. Now, the representative will take a look at the details and you will be required to fill out any outstanding charges before being able to migrate to prepaid.

6. The customer executive will now raise a request, following which you will get an OTP on your phone, which you need to share with the representative.

7. Once done, it will take around two hours to activate the prepaid connection, following which you need to recharge your number using the Airtel Thanks app.

When you switch your Airtel SIM from postpaid to prepaid, all your data rollover benefits will be invalid. However, you can transfer the existing talk time balance by dialling *141# from your phone, selecting the ‘Share Talk time’ option from the menu and pressing 1.
